So many of us

Although I come from an Italian background, I ve always had a fascination on Matriochkas. Since I was a little girl, the magic of seeing one getting outside and the expectation to find out which is the last size to come made my day.

The first set of dolls was designed in 1890 in the east of Russia and they are said to be inspired by a kind of Japanese doll called Fukurum. After the great succes of the doll, the wife of its designer, Vasiliy Zvyozdochkin, took the dolls to the “Exposition Universelle” in1900 in Paris, and it is said to have had a huge sucess.

For me they just represent a joyful decoration object that somehow, when I catch my eyes staring at them, I can go back to my childhood years.
